State of Ji

State of Ji

The State of Ji (simplified: 纪国, traditional: 紀國, pinyin: Jì Guó, jyutping: gei2 gwok3) was a small feudal state during the Spring and Autumn period, located in what is now Shandong Province. Ji was eventually absorbed by the State of Qi.

History

Ji was one of the smaller states of the Spring and Autumn period. Its territory lay in the eastern part of the Central Plains. The state’s fate was tied to the rivalry between larger neighbours; it was destroyed by Qi in the early Spring and Autumn period.

In Sword of the Yue Maiden, the State of Ji may be mentioned as part of the historical and political background of the era. Its inclusion helps convey the fragmented landscape of states during the Spring and Autumn period.
